Ship Security Officer (SSO)

The course is designed to train delegates to undertake the role of shipboard security officer, meeting the requirements laid down in STCW ’78, as amended, regulation V1/5 and STCW code section A-V1/5. It is certified by the UK MCA.

Officers seeking certification as shipboard security officers.

The syllabus focuses on:

  •     Assessment of security risks, threat and vulnerability
  •     Background, legislation
  •     Encouragement of security awareness and vigilance amongst crew
  •     Inspection, maintenance, review and audit of implemented security measures
  •     The development, maintenance and supervision of a ship security plan
  •     The relationship/interaction between the onboard security plan and security plans operating at port facilities

Delegates should have either:

  •     12 months sea service or
  •     Appropriate sea service and knowledge of ship operations
